Help families bridge the gap out of working poverty.
It can be hard to make ends meet—and it’s even harder without a reliable vehicle.
In the United States, 91% of adults rely on their personal vehicle to commute to work—and reliable transportation can mean the difference between keeping and losing a much-needed job.
A quality, low-mileage, and working vehicle—like the ones provided in our car assistance program—gives important financial and employment stability. The newfound independence and convenience of owning a vehicle can also provide people better access to healthcare, more educational opportunities, more time spent with family and friends, and a sense of pride at owning their own car.
Cars for Keeps goes beyond fighting financial poverty—it combats mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, and relational poverty as well.
We know that hard working people aren’t interested in handouts.
They want solutions.
That’s why our zero-interest lease-to-own car assistance program includes a payment that won’t exceed 10 percent of the individual’s monthly income. The recipient will fully own the vehicle after the lease and will be equipped with financial tools and knowledge to help them stay secure and stable.
To apply for the program, applicants must:
- Meet gross household income levelsthat range 110% - 140% of the federal poverty level
- Have a credit score of 450 or higher
- Have a steady monthly household income sufficient to cover an auto payment, insurance, and other automotive expenses
- Have no criminal background or activity for a minimum of five years
- Live in Tippecanoe County or one of its adjacent counties for a minimum of one year
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have a legal Indiana driver’s license and be eligible to drive in the state of Indiana
- Show six months of employment with current employer and supply a letter of reference from them
